Does truth matter in a election?

The election in America this year brings about the same sort of discussions. It’s going to include Trump, it will bring up foreign policy, and Christianity will be stuffed in somewhere.

It’s the same shtick as before, even if the reality of a democratic vote today is vastly different. It isn’t a cynical ploy or a deceptive “sleight of hand” against ordinary people. There are real consequences – and real opportunities – involved.

The truths of religion aren’t so true for those that don’t believe, but they don’t get to decide who votes, and how. They get to vote themselves however, and this forms the bedrock of our way of doing it.

The religious may choose to use a vote to say “no” to abortion but keep their lives as it is. Maybe they’re happy with the “status quo” of things, but terminating a child’s life riles them.

It may rile you, but for a different reason. They’ve chosen to put a vote where their preacher’s mouth is and make it count, whilst you’ve got a personal disagreement.

It’s their private motivation – and yours – and you’re both content in doing it. It’s the way of society to mix and confuse the two, and believe one side has enough votes and the other doesn’t.
