David Lammy MP (Tottenham/Labour), Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, has announced a new measure to target traffickers.
His idea is to sanction the people traffickers who target the UK with their illegal trade. The legislation will be introduced shortly. It’s planned to be implemented this year.
“I’m proud to announce that the UK is set to be the first country in the world to develop legislation for a new sanctions regime specifically targeting irregular migration and organised immigration crime. This will help to prevent, combat, deter and disrupt irregular migration and the smuggling of migrants into the UK.”
The Channel crossings continue to epitomise a problem with the illegal movement of people. It also occurs at airports, seaport entry points, and private landing strips.
