Our cultural debate about meat is endless. The prominence of a group comes and goes. The staged protests bring to mind the facts of the matter one has. The retorts bring out alternative views.
In truth, meat will never go away. It will always be consumed. The vastness of animal farming is indicative of it. The will of animal rights activists is to limit the debate. None of it is going away.

Welfare is an argument that makes sense. So too is the necessity of respecting the use of particular slaughter techniques. The balance is in meaning the least harm as often as possible.
