What criminals do online

It’s not easy tracking down individual kidnappers, but looking into the system or industry itself, while taking time, also provides results. As part of an abiding concern, I looked into the issue many years ago and had to leave it because of the dangers of doing it.

It’s become clear, however, that it’s a growing problem as well as under increasing scrutiny. This means it’s now more obvious than before what the issues are surrounding an ease in taking children away from their guardians or parents, and using them for criminal gain.

Recruitment propaganda on Facebook

The proliferation of criminal posts online are not the fault of social media networks, but the people that place them there. It’s the job of officers of the law to look into who it is, and to shut down their activities. It’s happened offline before, so the job moves with it.

I’ve found evidence on Facebook of a user posting invitations to learn how to prepare for an attempted kidnapping. The networks that underpin this sort of criminality are predictably extensive, but those who take up the opportunity are individuals looking for their next win.
