It already powers a large percentage of manufacturing. It now seeks to list its companies, directly sell its products, and educate us.
This is not a small manoeuvre.
If large Asian states have done similar things before, this is more of a public facing role. It won’t be hidden that China is behind some of these behemoths, and it won’t shirk the opportunity for it to be so.
The growing rumours that its new embassy in London will go ahead is indicative of its sizing up of a billion-plus supersized and economically active population.
This is not a new era.
It’s an adjustment of purpose as assets are piling up in its healthiest stage of profitability yet.
The country is experiencing advancements we may never appreciate here. Yet its hawks are out to let us know a payoff is not just a local event.
