Prisons

  • Caught: Jailbreaker

In a stunning exclusive for Conservative News Site, a prolific so-called “Jailbreaker” alleged to be paid by UK-based media companies to extract high-profile prisoners has now been spotted.

A suspect alleged of nefarious interference in the prison system seen here in Reading Station, in Reading, Berkshire.

She’s believed to have been paid by unscrupulous staff of entities like “Sky News” and had been targeting the case of Sarah Kaplan, the Dover Crossings criminal.

  • Prisons are solutions, not a crisis

The scathing Independent Review of Prison Capacity, published earlier this month, suggested a long run of Conservative failures during 2010 and 2024. The conclusion of fourteen years of Conservative rule is suggested to be a single open prison, or its equivalent.

“The net effect is that fewer than 500 places have been added to total operational capacity between 2010 and 2024.”

This is not reflective of the rhetoric and campaigning that Conservatives undertook at a similar time. It’s also not sympathetic to those MP’s in leadership who formerly chose to prioritise it. It’s an indictment of its overall purpose.

The first challenge is to overcome a manufactured crisis driven by inferior, often youthful interests. The second is to ignore an immature, felt version of wisdom and to follow the needs of the Prison estate. It’s far more important than a village people mindset.

  • Public opinion on prisons

The rising number of prisoners and low availability of prison cells in the UK has caused controversy in recent weeks.

The concern over it has led to criticism of the previous government’s handling of the UK’s prison estate. It’s also focused attention on Sir Keir Starmer’s new government and his response to the growing crisis.

However, according to a poll conducted by YouGov, the public are more in favour of two ways to sort it out.

The UK public see deporting imprisoned foreign nationals (82% support) and building more prisons (80% support) as two ways out of this mess. In fact support for either solution is nearly equal.

It appears there’s no lack of a will or a way.

  • Prison service: Beds and places

The Ministry of Justice (MOJ) have produced statistics today in a report entitled Adult Male Population and Capacity Release which covers the reach of its prison estate in terms of capacity.

It shows a stagnant if declining rate of usable places within a range of hundreds since the start of this year.

    Useable Operational Capacity chart

It indicates thousands of more places may be needed to allay fears of overcrowding to a point of exceeding capacity and a need to seek alternative arrangements in the justice system.
