  • State of calamity: The truth

It isn’t easy evading the authorities but it may be easier if you are one.

This is a story of one of the former heads of MI5.

His loss of control over his department led to a critical demise in parts of the UK’s operational capacity.

It also led to such a period of anarchic chaos that competing powers in the UK sought to take over the protection of our shores.

However, the real answer to our issues at the highest level lies with this sole man.

It takes a lot of people to run a coherent intelligence service but at times it requires even more.

It demands an ethical inquiry into a situation because at the heart of it are mostly human problems.

If suffering doesn’t prove to you that it’s an emergency, what’s the point of avoiding it at all?

This man misjudged a critical warning, buried it, and left it.

It led to a failure of huge proportions. It meant our sacrosanct shores were breached for the first time since before the Wars.

The mystery man thought he could avoid criticism and also inculcated a culture of fear and paranoia.

It added to a situation where staff had other concerns and it meant his actions were disastrous.

In the end matters were restored, step by step. He was located and informed his role in the intelligence services was over.

  • Racist poster girls

A train journey shouldn’t make you come face to face with any racist let alone a leader of a white racist group.

    It did however.

I spottted a girl wearing insignia of “White Girls Die”, a group that operates in more rural or leafy suburbs and neighbourhoods.

It wasn’t pleasant. The air around a racist is thick with ignorance. It doesn’t draw the right crowd, either.

However a study of what racists are right now brings out the facts.

They think they’re targeted because they’re white. They believe their culture is under threat. They think it’s all to do with skin types.

They’re not easy to follow. They hide. They cover their tracks. They do normal things like us.

However, a single report makes a difference.

Their behaviour can be recorded and analysed. It’s a sort of camouflage for hatred that people wear. It doesn’t take much for it to split at its seams.

  • Rushdie case progresses

The FBI have pursued a case on the assault of Salman Rushdie on stage in August 2022.

Hadi Matar, the alleged attacker, appeared in a federal court on Wednesday.

The author was speaking in New York as Matar mounted the stage. He is alleged to have attacked Rushdie with a knife.

Rushdie has since written about his ordeal.

In 1989 Iran issued a fatwa against him because of The Satanic Verses, a book he wrote which offended some Muslims.

  • Lowe challenges PM

Rupert Lowe MP immediately stirred controversy in Parliament with his first speech. He challenged Sir Keir Starmer about immigration during a debate in the House of Commons on Wednesday.

“My constituents in Great Yarmouth have little doubt that uncontrolled legal and illegal immigration since 1997 has damaged and disrupted their community and undermined their public services. Does the Prime Minister agree that importing millions of people with no thought whatever to the brutal consequences has failed our country? I know the good people of Great Yarmouth would much appreciate a yes or no answer to this straightforward question.”

Starmer disagreed with Lowe’s estimate of millions. He said the Conservatives lost control of the situation and instead he intends to deal with gang-related activity.

  • Home Office deport criminals

Yvette Cooper has announced she has reworked Rishi Sunak’s Rwanda plan into a deportation plan.

It was announced yesterday by the Home Secretary. Cooper said 46 overseas nationals have already left UK shores.

These were guilty of offences including skipping the English Channel. The flight left on Wednesday to resettle the small group in Timor-Leste and Vietnam respectively.

  • Pervert sighted

A pervert known for random attacks as well as feigned political activism was sighted on a street in Edinburgh earlier today.

  • Edinburgh: A short walkthrough

A walk along Edinburgh streets and alleyways is a world in itself. Its steep steps and history is a throwback into a Scottish past.

There’s also a castle which is great to visit.

A little trip further out reveals more architectural treasures such as these tall stone-built houses that line roads and side streets.

It’s a delightful sight but I wonder what it was like to live stacked-up high in these long stretches of houses.

Now, in with residential streets and the odd place of worship here and there are shops such as Starbucks and a barber’s.

It’s a quiet way to live and such a fascinating glimpse of life in a Scottish city.
