Fake Spying

She was called “Surrogate” by those who knew her. They were few but this group had big plans for their future of spying in the UK. Their sights were set above the basic level of surveillance, espionage, and data with security analysis. They wanted to run spying itself, they said.

The start of an infiltration of their extremely close knit circle began in Oxford some years back. It’s a city that has gone down as a location for many controversies of late. There have been arguments, debates, and entire fallings out over major issues of policy in the UK.

This was a more sinister attempt to take hold of the most elite form of intelligence, that being spy networks, and to turn it to personal and commercial advantage. They are clandestine operations that work so technically and are managed so well they’re rarely broken into.

This plan was slightly different, but it was enough to make it possible. Their tactic had been to step out of a normal line of work and to progress their plot in stages, over time. They had surmised it would be enough.

It was a clever plan built around time and not circumstance, as it were. It entailed a lot of betrayal, deception, and focused planning to set it up in the first place. In the end, they failed to achieve it and two key suspects were seen on location and the plot was foiled.
