  • Exclusive: MI5 to drop performance goals

    MI5, “The Security Service”, is to take a step beyond performative security and end the use of self-assessment tools that manage its own progress and handle public criticism. It means it won’t be bound by “large criticisms” from research and media groups as it pertains to its existence or future development.

    The shift in understanding is believed to be due to an increasing misunderstanding over its role because of fake news, and fast-changing realities that have meant emphatic changes or improvements have been missed over loss to dramatic moments and piecemeal failures here and there.

    Sir Ken McCallum, its Director General, has reportedly been presented with data that shows personal values and self-motivated working practices raise awareness of threats and help Agents and staff to manage complex challenges on any single working day, thereby improving public safety.

    In the UK, the security remit has seen rapid expansion in the public realm, while ‘big’ matters such as the safety of Politicians has taken up public attention. While the Intelligence body sees its main role as being the protection of every UK citizen who serves the State in some way, shape, or form, it also wants to act as a safeguard on all realities.

    The attempt to dismantle an entire security infrastructure in a nation is a nightmare. The portent of it is seen in a widespread mobilisation of people in one state against another. It may be a random attack, but it’s more likely to precede a particular initiative. This is the precursor to a supposed rise for a people that don’t really deserve it.

    The act of it is really a facet of something else that we’ve seen before. The pick and choose mentality of so many by so many now is a feature of our modern context. It may not yet meet a threshold of radical activity, but it’s extremism in its barest form.

    The UK suffers from a lack of legitimate human activity. Meanwhile pliable staff sit at terminals and watch the chaos happen. They speak up the game and swing the near misses, but their lack of ethic is clear. The public aren’t fooled by lazy employees or scatterbrained managers.

    Our nation’s security has become an overriding priority in our times. It’s distinct from the Second World War, the last time we were threatened in a fundamental way.

    Such fatal threats as these don’t come along that often, and even though it again shocked the nation into full scale military mobilisation, it’s not believed it’s on the horizon.

    The reality is there’s life after death. The insecurity of the world order is constituted by insidious efforts on all fronts. The necessity to work by partnership is undermined by it.

    Fighting hard

    The old war militias of our past, that peppered the landscape and brought about some safety but a lot of animosity, are something now out of date. They are beyond use.

    The necessity to account for the movements of people is beyond a shadow of a doubt the main concern right now. The illegal activity at Dover is just one example of it.

    It’s also vital we confront the insidious threats posed by groups that continue their activity apart from signature acts of terror and violence that aren’t the point of it.

    Terror at home

    Most of terrorism takes place against people at home. The incursions into Israel, and its bombardment, is not the aim. The point is to attack people in their living space.

    The training videos, the threats, and the statements are all designed to make us feel afraid. The nature of lone actors is to make us fear for our lives. The rest is history.

    Future fights

    All the groups pushed to prominence are the issue. The gangs of South America, as well as American Mafia’s, and crime Barons in Russia, are all a threat. They are our enemies now.

    The successful will win our sovereignty. It’s possible today to leverage such political realities for further gain. The defence of our shores, and of our communities, is a way of life.

    The historic attempts at our shores – some successful, and some not – are a model for us. It helps to know what it takes, but our learnings make us see what follows after it’s tried.

    In related news, nearly 10,000 deportations have been achieved since the government took office. It includes forced and volunteer returns, with some being criminals, and others with no right to stay.

    A man suspected of masquerading as a security analyst has finally been tracked down today. He’s caused significant damage to security infrastructure in the UK and caused chaos for the intelligence services.

    His activity is malign because it interferes in key strategic planning for the country and makes milestones such as public events that much more dangerous.
