  • Andrew Neil returns – for more

The legendary Andrew Neil has a presence in Whitehall that is more than the sum of his parts. He’s taken in more information than I ever could, and gives out analysis at a much better rate. He’s a machine in an era that’s altogether unsure about AI anyway.

His new show – The Andrew Neil Report – comes out to show us how it’s done. He’s English. He’s well-placed (still). He’s eloquent on just about any issue. He can also take chunks out of people – and leave some over for the rest of us. He’s a man of means.

The return of Andrew Neil comes at a time when it’s really needed. No politician can get away with being in government without the scrutiny he provides. Here he comes, handing it out each Thursday in direct and indirect ways. There’s nothing more to ask for in his incisive dedication to a real trade.

  • Trafficking: A theory of acceptance

The advent of trafficking in the UK has inspired many people to get off their backsides to give their opinions on it in a more public way. An example of this is the YouTube channel of Shoaib Hanif, who I’ve met before and discussed this with.

He uploads videos to share his unofficial advice on immigration and other matters he cares about. Even though we know not to take advice from strangers, there are those who sincerely seek help in their predicament when faced with an issue or a dilemma.

There are traffickers who get their victims to decide quickly. It’s a trick to put people under pressure and submit to their nefarious tactics. In a hurry a victim may take incorrect advice either first or second hand and get themselves into serious difficulty.
