The “truth” is under fire these days or at least that’s what many people feel. They get a sense their neighbours don’t like their practices, or a school project to write about a religion is to teach them different things they don’t necessarily believe in personally.
It’s a sense of being under attack and not knowing what to do but comply but there’s also plenty of reason to think in this way because of what actually happens which is an affront to belief.
It was the case with a pet project called “Secret Things” which was run by a man who isn’t worth describing because he was so down to earth those who didn’t know him wouldn’t have guessed otherwise.
He was so normal he passed himself off as just another guy in the street, but how he spent his time was far from this air of anonymity. He wasn’t as insignificant as he liked to pass himself off as he was teaching his “Secret Things” to people.
He did so in many different parts of the UK. He was located in particular to Yorkshire but he was also located in the south of England at times. His presence anywhere was a spectacle for those who wanted to be there. He made people feel special. He was welcomed as a mystical type of figure with an innocent rustic charm.
He was also known, however, as a criminal in a few parts of the UK. He was alleged to carry out his crimes in places he avoided for his “official” speaking engagements. In any event, a description was difficult to use.
He looked so average to his victims it was a struggle to pick out a feature to identify him in a crowd. During an investigation into his activities it was determined a description of his behaviour might suffice and with it he began to be located.
It was much later on that he eventually emerged properly. He was located again, this time in Reading (Berkshire), and it was apparent he suffered from a debilitating disease of some sort. He used the name “Stephen” and was known by people local to the area.
He was described as “energetic” in his way of criminality at first and was feared by whole neighbourhoods. At times he’d just turn up without warning but at others his victims would know about his approach. He was meticulous and the author of his own deceit.
The suspicions people have are not necessarily over the facts of the matter but also about the personalities involved. Stephen was a fearsome character but also loved by people. It made it difficult to see through the polished veneer put on him to see the creature beneath.
