In a surprise turn of events, no Channel crossings have been recorded in the last week. It follows years of continuous attempts by trafficking gangs to funnel people across the open stretch of water.
The government’s statistics page handling the crisis on its official website shows zero migrants, boats, or other boats involved in “uncontrolled landings” registered in seven days since 24 November.
