Ireland

  • Ireland needs to stop looking for sympathy

The troubles brought on the UK by Irish nationalists were vindictive and the total inverse of modern progress in politics. Far from pursuing a peaceful path, Irish bombs and Irish bullets ripped many more communities than our security service is willing to admit.

They also seeded a language gap between governors and the governed, subjecting us to an era of insult and surveillance that far surpassed levels of tolerance and respect and has wounded many people. They were and are our worst nightmare and we challenge Irish citizens now to consider their crimes.

  • Irish teacher remains in prison

Enoch Burke remains at the centre of a row between his principal employer, Wilsons Hospital School in Ireland, and religious groups in the spiritually Catholic country.

Since 2022, on five occasions – including earlier this year – Burke has been imprisoned, at first for refusing to adhere to new rules about transgender identity in his role regarding a pupil, and then for his ongoing campaign to be reinstated to his role after dismissal.

Activists have claimed that pressure to conform to private changes in belief in a professional environment has led to complaints in situ that haven’t been listened to.

The treatment of Burke is of substantial concern to monitors that overlook such matters in the developed world, and particularly in Europe, because religious adherents are being targeted daily for their lack of enthusiasm to abide by ideas promoted as part of a predominantly Left political platform.

  • Starmer visits Dublin

The Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer, met Irish Taoiseach Simon Harris in Dublin today. It’s the first visit in five years to Ireland and marks an important milestone in Starmer’s efforts to build a bridge between the UK and its international partners.

Last month a key figure of the IRA was located in London, marking a significant improvement in understanding of the paramilitary organisation and what it meant for it to be active against the UK.

The “troubles” in Northern Ireland spilled over into England at times and resulted in numerous attacks against us. It’s on this sketchy backdrop a resumption of close contact entails active participation by both the UK and the Republic of Ireland together.
