Royal Family

  • The Prince Harry buzz is fading

After a while, the star appeal around certain individuals begins to wane.

It’s because we get to know their ins and outs, their wiles and foes, and their ups and downs.

The truth is Prince Harry has shown enough of this by far.

The serious work of a statesman-like Royal is afoot if anything is going to be meaningful – and make sense.

The fallout of a charity row hasn’t dented his repute – but may lower expectations for any collaborations that are to come.

His forward mission is his own.

  • Harry’s a song and a dance

Prince Harry is a star in his own right on any occasion.

A leaked video of a dance to a tune on a maternity ward is surely evidence of it.

If you thought being a Dad is a dampener on his bucket list, think again.

  • Prince William said to be in love

Prince William is said to have found a new partner. This is according to private Royal sources. They’ve said privacy is important at the present time.

It’s not understood if a divorce settlement has been reached. It’s believed this type of discussion is a routine.

  • The King strikes a difficult pose

Monarch’s can’t take us to war, set economic policy, or determine judicial outcomes. They can appear on TV, in a streaming documentary, or on a podcast. This is the sort of engagement King Charles has chosen, and it’s the sort of instruction we get.

The rest of it is history. The warfare of welfare, the striving of economists, or the struggle of policy hacks is separate. It doesn’t figure in their imagination to engage Royalty. It doesn’t make sense to seek an opinion. The way of the day is to wing it like Netflix.

This marks a different pose for a Royal Family used to real issues. Her Late Majesty had to navigate troubled waters. The King’s first wife even travelled with her own. The path ahead of a landscaped and rose-lined way is paved with home comforts for a King.

It doesn’t match the hardship of working it out or the tough decisions that have to be made everyday. The research on the pavement or the surveys in living rooms. This is the sweat and tears of Civil Servants and the odd MP. It’s not fitting for Royals now.

  • Harry’s new moon

It’s a laughing affair if it’s heard you read tarot, or have crystals. Who could expect anything to come by it?

It appears a lot of people, and followers, do. It has a huge audience amongst alternative livers online.

If Harry’s new wife is anything to go by, she might bring in a lot of it. It would be helpful at this point.

Her Instagram account is live, and its lone video already has 2.8 million views. It’s not bad going, to be fair.

  • King gives Xmas message

King Charles III has marked the year by referring to heartache and joy in a message of mixed feelings. He mentioned health, welfare, and a revival of community spirit that’s spread in the UK.

He stood facing to camera, giving his monologue in his own voice, intermixed with videos of his work, and UK citizens. He quoted a Christmas carol, and referred to a Bible passage.

  • Not a very Royal Xmas

It’s looking set to be a divisive Xmas indeed. The news is the Royals can’t fit around the same table, over differences they’ve got.

I imagine it’s more than that.

Maybe they’d fancy a year apart. It may help relations, after all.

  • Prince William’s time is nearing

Prince William has a lot before him, but it’s not clear what it is.

He’s going to inherit a crown, of course, but beyond it, who is he, and what is he doing here?

The buildings, money, and assets are beyond the essential point of any monarchy.

It doesn’t matter what it is they have, as if it’s needful to itemise plunder. This is what rebels do.

He’s got to be civilised, professional, and forward-thinking.

It’s got to be useful, whatever he does. It’s also got to help, and to prove a way forward for a world in crisis.

His mandate is a way out, not a way in, in some respects. He’s got to be a leader, in the old hue of kings.

  • The lamentations of Harry

There’s a sense family fortunes differ, as also recollections. The stuffing of his father, and late grandmother, has left old Harry in a parlous state of affairs.

What isn’t clear as yet is how far his reputation will be harmed by his father’s trip overseas to Australia. It’s going well, by all accounts, and his didn’t.

His woes started with a shortened stay in Canada, and then deepened by a drugs accusation in the US. He’s now allegedly on the hunt for a place in Portugal.

The recent protests against tourism in Europe won’t help a beleaguered and pressured Prince to find a place. He may be thrown out for being too English.

  • Royal figures in our past

In our Royal history, the preeminent figures have always been monarchs. It changes if there’s an accession, but not otherwise. It makes for a vibrant if controversial type of rule.

The way of it is clear, and it’s kept simple. Our whole constitution is built around it, and we have our place and function because of it. The past is our present, and our future.

  • King to visit Australia

His Majesty the King is due to visit Australia with Queen Camilla next Friday. The full week of activities includes a high level meeting in the King’s new role as Head of the Commonwealth.
