The common sight of protest needs to be replaced with debate that results in serious scrutiny of facts and capable handling of evidence. It’s the benefit of a mature democracy to produce results from a consideration of basic human issues.
We need no further proof that protest simply doesn’t work and that far from bringing us together, it lacks inherent progressive worth and divides our communities. The impulse to it is contrived. The aims delivered are defective.
The translation of difficult international issues outwardly and the internalisation of hatred and bitter rebuke has ruined politics for too many people. The chaos that’s ensued from too much radicalism is a waste of police time and prolongs the legislative process.
It’s not true young people are more actively involved by tolerating public events like these. It’s truer to say we understand ourselves better by working together, not pretending to it by taking citizenship as a right to go and denigrate others.
