The fever pitch of Western elections is a thing of fiction in Russian terms. There’s no such enthusiasm for politics there. A feeling of seriousness is all that’s common amongst those that can take part.
With a sort of electoral college system spread out in the upper levels of society, and it being not so far removed from a general population as some may think, there’s a broad awareness of leadership campaigns when they happen.
As usual, the process is the most important thing and the expected winner comes into power. Such a moment of euphoria as we may find here doesn’t exist. The nation breathes a sigh of relief that it has another leader.
This is a morbid reality in a time for advancement based on knowhow and ingenuity. The fact Russia can’t evolve a real democratic system isn’t a show of strength but a sign of weakness. This must change. Russia must be free and open.
