Labour want Burnham, but what does Labour really want?

The meaningless train journey that only helped Andy Burnham MP to get to his new job has led to virtually nothing so far. What a week of pointless, droll activity can mean now for the country is beside the point. The Labour party is clearly seeking a break from full-on Starmerism, but isn’t sure what’s next.

The leaders waiting in the wings need support, and this can only come from above. Union bosses are powerful but hard to win over. Sir Tony Blair never really backs anyone else. The Lords is packed with Labourites but their movements have been slow on this. The party of workers is going at a slow pace. It’s no surprise Burnham is out in front.
