  • Harry vs. Trump?

The saga of Prince Harry’s life is alleged to take a turn soon.

The election of Donald Trump puts back into focus a President who hasn’t got the nicest of things to say about him.

In a time when royalty rides off nice things being said, it’s not a good outlook.

Neither are the articles that damn him for choosing a TV actress who doesn’t act that well.

  • Chaos as Spanish King visits flood-hit town

The King of Spain has encountered an angry mob of protesters as he visited flood hit areas.

  • A long demise of English royalty?

It’s not easy being anything today, not least inheriting a crown. The more vocal think it’s fake. The less thoughtful believe it’s useless. In-between are those who still want their job. It doesn’t seem to fit in anywhere.

The reality is overlooked for a short term opinion. It makes sense, and it may even make a buck. The truth is it’s nefarious. It disrupts ordinary daily life, and spreads ill feeling in those who know it’s true.

I’ve met people who are disappointed because King Charles has been hated on by powerful people. They’re also annoyed because the least powerful do it too. It sort of runs in the national family.

  • The lamentations of Harry

There’s a sense family fortunes differ, as also recollections. The stuffing of his father, and late grandmother, has left old Harry in a parlous state of affairs.

What isn’t clear as yet is how far his reputation will be harmed by his father’s trip overseas to Australia. It’s going well, by all accounts, and his didn’t.

His woes started with a shortened stay in Canada, and then deepened by a drugs accusation in the US. He’s now allegedly on the hunt for a place in Portugal.

The recent protests against tourism in Europe won’t help a beleaguered and pressured Prince to find a place. He may be thrown out for being too English.

  • Royal figures in our past

In our Royal history, the preeminent figures have always been monarchs. It changes if there’s an accession, but not otherwise. It makes for a vibrant if controversial type of rule.

The way of it is clear, and it’s kept simple. Our whole constitution is built around it, and we have our place and function because of it. The past is our present, and our future.

  • Harry, the jet-setter

Prince Harry has been in and out of the UK. He’s attended a funeral, visited a charity, and continued his legal case. It’s nice to think the Prince can be more mobile, considering his quick exit and security troubles.

All told he’s still alive (phew), and all being well he’ll make it through another year. He’s a canny lad with an eye for opportunities as well as mischief. A few bad headlines may remedy any good press.
